Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia, also known as "reduction of the female breast in man," defines the excess localized fat, excessive development of glandular tissue or both (excess fat and glandular tissue) unilateral or bilateral.

The causes of gynecomastia may be unknown, may have pathological origin (illness), pharmacological (eg, steroid use) or physiological (eg, hormone imbalance).

At Clínica Ibérico Nogueira we make the diagnosis to determine which surgical technique is applicable. Therefore, it will be necessary to assess the presence of fat or gland enlargement, the presence of mass assess asymmetry between the breasts, the degree of blepharoptosis, among others.

The goal of this surgery is to restore the body contour and correct deformities of the breast, nipple or areola. Surgical options include liposuction, excision (surgical removal of tissue) or a combination of both approaches.

The procedure lasts between 45 and 90 minutes with local anesthesia and mild sedation.

The recovery period will depend on the size of the intervention, but generally you will recover in 3 to 5 days.

The scars of gynecomastia surgery depend on the diagnosis and surgical technique. The incisions from liposuction are extremely small (1 to 2 mm). If applicable, the incision may be in the areola, or around it (in a half-moon shape).
